It’s officially Christmas when…

Is it just me, or does it seem like people are starting to begin the Christmas celebrations earlier and earlier? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not Scrooge or anything, I absolutely love Christmas time. I just don’t understand why the “Christmas Season” needs to begin earlier and earlier each year.

I started to see the first signs of Christmas just a few days after Halloween this year. The retail stores began moving out all of the old Halloween decorations and began stocking the shelves with all the familiar signs of the winter holiday: lights, trees, wreaths, ornaments, and everyone’s favorite, the candy cane. (Never understood why a mint is considered ‘candy’ – is that the mystery of the season?)

Maybe I am just a little old school, but the Christmas season definitely cannot begin until at least December. A lot of people start hanging lights on the house and dusting off the old fake Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving (not as bad as the day after Halloween, but still…). What’s the rush?

Many moons ago, Christmas was just celebrated during that week – and since then it has continued to grow from the “12 Days of Christmas” to the “25 Days of Christmas”, and pretty soon the “365 days of Christmas.” I think that all things are more enjoyable when rationed.

I mean, would the sun be as appreciated if it was sunny every day of the year? Or does it take a few rainy days here and there to make us appreciate and enjoy a nice sunny one?

Which brings me to my ultimate question – When is it officially Christmas for you? For me, I don’t fully get into the Christmas spirit until the college football bowl games begin…that’s when I know it is officially the best time of the year.

Every person/family has their very own holiday traditions that symbolize the season – maybe it’s decorating the tree, or hanging the lights, or sending out the “year in review Christmas letter/card.”

What are your holiday traditions? Leave a comment below that finishes the sentence: It’s officially Christmas when
