Gotham Interview with Walter Trout

When I was approached to interview Walter Trout, it was really quite an easy decision. You mean I have the chance to talk with one of the greatest guitarists around?

After I received the latest press kit for Trout, it just solidified that decision. “Trout’s compelling music resides in a territory that unites the worlds of blues, rock and pure sonic adventurism, where inspiration and technique meet to create a unique soulful language.” How could anyone turn down an opportunity to talk to the man behind that kind of power and soul?

Walter opened up about what it means to him to be out on the road, his favorite guitar that has been with him since pretty much the beginning and the emotion behind his 20th album Common Ground.

You read that right…Walter has released 20 albums in 21 years. It’s truly an incredible accomplishment, and this latest album is one of his best yet. He recorded it with Kenny Aronoff on drums, Hutch Hutchinson on bass and John Cleary on piano, all of whom Walter holds in the highest of regards.

BBC Radio One has named Walter Trout number six on their list of the top 20 guitarists of all time. Bob Harris, legendary radio DJ, called Trout “the world’s greatest rock guitarist” in his book The Whispering Years.

There’s no doubt that Walter Trout is a living legend. It was truly an honor to speak to him.

Walter is a great guy and it was awesome chatting with him. I can’t wait to see him rock BB King’s in Times Square on April 2nd. If you get a chance to see him, don’t miss it. And make sure to pick up Common Ground. If you’re a fan of blues and/or good ol’ fashion rock and roll, you won’t be disappointed. Trust me.
