I had the distinct privilege to chat with one of the best guitarists in rock and roll, Mr. Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge and Creed. He’s a busy guy right now…from working on his solo project to getting ready to hit the road for the Carnival of Madness tour to preparing for the show of his life at Wembley Stadium…Needless to say, Mark’s got a lot on his plate right now, so it was great to carve out 10 minutes with the guitar virtuoso.

“I’m tracking again on the 30th for about 8 or 9 days. I should have all my rhythm guitars finished and I’ll start to get into some vocals. Then I go back out on tour and try and organize the guitar solo ideas,” Mark told me about his solo album. “I’m just finishing up writing all the lyrics which is a huge deal for me. I think the Alter Bridge fan base will like it. It’s definitely in that vein. Me and Myles couldn’t be any different as far as vocalists go. And it leans a little bit heavier than the Alter Bridge stuff.”

Amongst his Alter Bridge tour, I asked him if his solo project will ever see the road. “I’d be kind of nervous to be the front man in a band to be honest with you…maybe I’ll open up for one of my other bands.”

Even though it happened nearly a month ago, I had to ask Mark about his experience listening to the new Van Halen record…but not just on a disc…it was performed LIVE in front of him! “It was amazing to see them do it right in front of me. I was thinking, how many people in the world get to do this?”

And through his whole busy schedule, I had to ask if there’s a place for Scott Stapp in it. “Yeah, I spoke with Scott last week and we’re gonna start putting together new ideas for another record. We already talked about doing a few tours next year. We’re gonna start getting going now.”

If you haven’t picked up AB III yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. Like I told Mark, there are a handful of records that I just always find myself going back to…and AB III is definitely one of them. From front to back, this CD proves just how powerful and raw Alter Bridge can be.

The Carnival of Madness tour kicks off in just a few weeks. Click here to get all the info you need on the tour, tickets and dates.
