Tuesday night, I had the distinct privilege to sit down with one of the most talented guitarists from Los Angeles visiting New York City playing the Gramercy Theatre on October 11th that I’ve ever talked to…possibly the greatest guitarist in that oddly specific category of all time actually.

His name is Satchel and he shreds metal for the one and only Steel Panther.

I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with these guys in Kansas City, and I have to say that some of the most fun I’ve ever had was just sitting back and listening to them banter between each other. They’re hilarious.

Steel Panther normally rocks the House of Blues on Sunset Strip in Los Angeles every Monday night…Tuesday night, however, they rocked – and rolled – New York City.

A sold out crowd ate up every second of Steel Panther’s set. From classics like “Fat Girl” and “Community Property” to brand new music off of their sophomore album Balls Out (set to drop on Halloween), the fans loved everything they heard. The music, the lyrics, the banter…Steel Panther brought their full show to Gotham and they killed it.

Being in New York City, I had to ask Satchel if he and the guys in the band were interested in protesting Wall Street.

“I was thinking about it, just going down there and hanging out in my spandex and get on CNN. But, it’s a little cool to just be hanging out in spandex.”

Why doesn’t Steel Panther get more involved in politics you might ask?

“You have to understand that at our age, there’s only so much place to store information in your brain. We still have to remember where we left our car keys. We have sex with a lot of girls. We have to remember a lot of notes. Occupy Wall Street, that’s for people in bands that can do odd time like Rush.”

As mentioned earlier, Balls Out is set to release on October 31st. Aside from their current tour, Satchel has a unique way to prepare for the album. “To get ready for it, I do a lot of calisthenics…I’ll wake up, I’ll do some calisthenics. That puts me in a mood to be ready for the album to come out.”

As always, I had to ask Satchel what new music is out there that he’s hot on. “I just bought a new record like three days ago. It was the new Motley Crue. Dr. Feelgood. That just came out, right?”

If you’ve never had a chance to see Steel Panther’s live show, you have no idea what you’re missing. Word on the street is that you’ll have another shot at feeling the steel here in New York City sometime in January…until then, pick up Feel the Steel and get ready for Balls Out.

Start doing your calisthenics.
