Stone Sour Hits The Studio

I received some very exciting news this morning…Stone Sour is hitting the studio to begin work on their fourth album. Not only that, but it’s expected that the album will be released this Fall.

“This album will be another progression for the band,” Josh Rand, guitarist, said. “Musically, we have always challenged one another to push things to our limits, and this record is not exception.”

If you look at the career of of Stone Sour, “progression” is a perfect word to describe the band. From their self-titled debut album to Come What(ever) May to their latest album Audio Secrecy, the band progresses and matures with each endeavor. And as much as I loved their first two albums, I went crazy over Audio Secrecy. There is no doubt that their new album will exceed expectations.

Fortunately, Rand shared a little more detail on the album. “Lyrically, the album follows one character to that complex moment in his life, when he finally has to decide which path to take. It’s a spiritual and moral power play for control of what this man will be for the rest of his life. Each song will tell the story from different sides of the character’s personality, with the listener ultimately deciding how the story ends.”

Rand makes it sound like the new album will be a concept album, and I can’t imagine a better route to take for this band. Imagine the mind of Corey Taylor behind the creation of a concept album…I get goosebumps thinking about it.

Stone Sour has headed into Sound Farm Studios in Iowa (outside their hometown Des Moines) and will be working with producer David Bottrill. Botrill has worked with the likes of Tool, Staind, and Muse. It’s reported that most of the album is already written, so when they hit the studios, they’ll get down to the nitty gritty of getting it recorded.

I can’t wait for this new album. Stay tuned for the latest details…As Slipknot wraps up their dates after the summer, there’s no doubt Stone Sour will hit the road in support of this. We’ll keep you posted with the latest.

For now, enjoy “Mission Statement” from Audio Secrecy.
